About

Welcome to S.E.C.

S.E.C. is the outlet for my exploration of fibre and textile art. My passion has always been to delve into new mediums and styles, and after nearly a decade of running the design and print based brand Club Waaa, I felt pulled to chart a new course.
The primary focus of my work is now rugs and other projects made with the Oxford Punch Needle. I still feel the heavy influence of printing in my rugs, often making me feel out of place in the fibre art world, but seeing the designs unfold in this medium just makes my heart sing and I know that I am currently where I am supposed to be.

Unable to completely turn my back on printing, I am still making time to print using hand cut stencils in favour of emulsion, and hand made linens and recycled fabrics in favour of t shirts.
I obtained my BA from the University of Toronto with a specialist degree in Mediaeval Art and Theology, and a minor in visual studies. The simplicity and narrative aspects of early medieval art continues to be a major influence for me.

Hand punching rugs is a slow, slow process. People often ask me if I will switch to a tufting machine, but I have no plans or desire to make that move. Using the Oxford Punch Needle is in itself a kind of meditation. The slow speed makes sense for my life and my brain, and allows to me to truly relish the beauty and preciousness of the wool I use.

I hope you enjoy the work!
